About Depth Therapy
Psychotherapy is the most effective approach to deal with and resolve issues for the long-term (J. Shedler, University of Colorado School of Medicine; American Psychologist, Vol. 65 No. 2). Working with a psychotherapist involves a deeper, more intense dialogue with issues than found in general counselling, and it is a fundamental part of services I offer. Combined with skill-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) (a form of short-term therapy with definitive treatment goals); Mindfulness-based Therapy; and Solution Focused Therapy; I can help with specialized tools for the short and long term. Through increased self-awareness and use of practical skills, you can gain self-understanding, authenticity, and the ability to make lasting change a reality.
Psychotherapy explores the deeper roots of issues, including the hidden facets of yourself and how they play out in your life. This deeper exploration is the "depth" in Depth Therapy (another word for "psychotherapy"), and includes insight-oriented work. According to your needs, therapy may involve Existential Approaches, Mindfulness-based Therapy, Talk-Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotional Focused Therapy, Relationship Therapy, and other approaches.
Many clients enter therapy in the midst of a crisis. As a psychotherapist, I help you resolve underlying issues and get you effective tools to use right away. Resolving symptoms (of depression, anxiety, relationship conflict, addiction, loneliness) as well as underlying issues is the key to true transformation. Treating just the symptoms of a problem can make issues seem to disappear. Like putting duct tape on a leaking pipe, however, problems return until the real issues are addressed. I can help you gain insight into long-standing patterns and conflicts in your life, finding the roots of problems so that you can experience real change.
The world beneath the everyday world is teeming with memories, dreams, images, and emotions, and has a huge impact on day-to-day functioning. In counselling, we explore this hidden world. When you can identify the emotional factors producing the need to drink, smoke, or engage in certain patterns in your life and relationships, and use effective tools to do things differently, symptoms improve.

The Process of Psychotherapy
The actual process of psychotherapy is tailored to your specific needs and goals. Therapy generally involves exploring the thoughts, feelings, and beliefs which impact your life and relationships. From here, I help you develop tools to do things differently, practice implementing them, and plan for future exigencies so that new patterns are strengthened.
“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” —Carl Rogers
Length of Counselling
Many clients see a difference after only a few sessions. There is no set time for which you need to attend counselling for; the length depends on the issues and goals you are working on. Some clients come for a few sessions and then check-in every few weeks; others come once every week or two until their goals are met. Whatever your schedule and needs, I will do my best to make time for you. I keep a few time slots free each week for new clients.
Serenity & Change
Connecting to life at a deeper level through working with a psychotherapist can be a profound experience. This process can be deeply satisfying as you find release from patterns which no longer serve you, resolve old issues, find forgiveness of self and others, gain inner resources, and connect to life purpose, finding true serenity.

Izumi Depth Therapy means. . . 泉
The Japanese character 泉 Izumi means "underground water," "hidden springs," and "source of inspiration, creativity, and life."
In our lives and relationships there are underground streams of feeling and meaning. In psychotherapy I can help you access these deeper currents, bringing hidden dreams, unexplored life meaning, and unresolved conflicts to the surface.
As underground springs bubbling through the ground on a hot day are a welcome, sweet, and deeply refreshing experience, so too is your inner self--your life and relationships--when self-understanding flows unimpeded.
